Are Adidas Yeezys Still Reselling?

The hype surrounding Kanye West’s sneakers might be fading

Storyset

If you looked back a few years ago, in 2017 Adidas Yeezy Boost sneakers were the best sneakers to resell.

There were a variety of reasons why Yeezys sold better on aftermarkets like StockX back then:

  • Athleisure style
  • Extremely comfortable
  • New silhouettes
  • Wearable colors
  • Kanye collaboration

Back then, Yeezy Boosts had every factor needed for a sneaker to do numbers on the aftermarket.

But now in 2021, the sneaker aftermarket has changed. Jordan 1 Highs have stolen the shoe, Nike Dunks are in the mix, and Michael Jordan’s Last Dance Documentary put Jordan’s over the top.

It leaves most resellers asking the question: Are Yeezys still worth it?

Let’s dig deeper.

Adidas Boost

Adidas Boost technology is still prevalent in the sneaker community and even outside of it for everyday wearers of sneakers. People recognize just how comfortable Boost is and the benefits of wearing a sneaker with Boost infused in it.

Almost all Yeezy models still come with Boost in them. The one major exception to this is the Yeezy 700 V3. These sneakers are popular and the retail is only $200, which is cheap for a Yeezy, but they don’t come with Boost and that’s the main reason why they retail so much cheaper.

As long as Adidas continues to infuse Boost into their Yeezy sneakers moving forward, this is an area where they won’t need to worry about innovation. Boost is by far one of the most comfortable features of any sneaker and the only thing even coming close to rivaling it is Nike’s React.

Silhouettes

Adidas Yeezy silhouettes are where most resellers — and sneaker buyers — have complaints about Yeezy sneakers.

We’ve seen every color under the sun release for the Yeezy 350 V2 model. At this point, we’ve seen every color release multiple times. It’s at the point where many buyers are sick of the same style of shoe and desperately want something different.

When you factor in the falling demand with the fact that 350 V2s retail for $220, it makes for a less profitable sneaker for any reseller to flip. Sure, if you hold a V2 for a year or longer, you’ll most likely still see a nice return on your investment. But for short-term resellers, Yeezys have started to fall off.

We’ve recently started to see a variety of different Yeezy silhouettes release in addition to just 350 V2s. While this is a start, buyers wouldn’t mind if we saw significantly fewer 350 V2s and only new colors/models for a while.

The Kanye West effect

Since Yeezy’s are Kanye West’s collaboration with Adidas, this was one initial reason why Yeezy Boosts took off in popularity.

But since then, Kanye West has said a number of questionable statements that we won’t get into. These statements have offended some buyers to the point of no longer wanting to follow his products or support him.

On the flip side, West is still making music and he’s on the verge of releasing his Donda album. As long as he makes music that people like, he’ll continue to have a large following that supports him and wants to buy his shoes.

Bottom line about reselling Adidas Yeezys

You have to pick and choose your products. Some Yeezys — like Pirate Bred 350 V2s — will perform well on the aftermarket because people genuinely want them.

Other models — like Yeezy QNTMS — will struggle and might even fall below retail price for years until they start to accumulate some traction on the aftermarket.

Invest your money wisely when deciding whether or not to start reselling any Adidas Yeezy sneaker. Factors like Boost, style, and Kanye West himself will affect the aftermarket prices of these sneakers.
